Benjamin R. Smith is an associate attorney with Alden Law Group and contributes to all aspects of the firm’s litigation work.
Before joining the firm, Benjamin worked at a boutique plaintiff-side employment law firm where he represented employees in their claims of discrimination and retaliation against their current and former employers before state and federal courts, and before the Equal Employment Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Benjamin also represented employees in wage and hour cases before the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Before joining his last firm, Benjamin clerked for the Honorable Louise M. DiMatteo at Arlington County Circuit Court.
During law school, Benjamin worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable Florence Y. Pan at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, as well as for the Honorable Amy Berman Jackson and the Honorable Beryl A. Howell at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Benjamin also held two internships with EEOC during his time in law school. He initially worked for EEOC’s Washington Field Office where he interviewed potential charging parties and investigated their claims of discrimination. Benjamin then went on to work for the Office of the Chair where he learned immensely from Chair Charlotte A. Burrows, and her staff, and assisted the Office of the Chair as Chair Burrows transitioned from Commissioner to Chair. Benjamin’s experiences with the EEOC provides our clients with invaluable insight into how to navigate their claims of discrimination.
